Torture Story… Two Australian women, a mother and daughter, Sharon and Alex, traveling on tourist visas to North Korea, were detained and interrogated by military intelligence officers for taking “unauthorized photographs.” Each was subjected to various ‘encouragements’ in the “Intensive Therapy Room.” These included beatings, cigarette burns on the breasts and nipples, rape, sodomy, extreme enemas and the Picana before they were broken.
Picana torture
The Picana was a notorious torture instrument in Brazil, Chile and Argentina during the seventies. A small electric probe the size of a pencil with a bronze or copper tip and an insulated handle, it is connected by wire to a control box with a rheostat to raise or reduce the voltage. It was usually powered by an automobile battery or plugged into a wall socket with the aid of a transformer. Two people manned it. The first worked the bobbin raising and reducing the voltage.
It was applied to the naked bodies of prisoners who were spread-eagled on the wooden table. With a ground wire attached to the prisoner’s toe, the picana was touched to sensitive areas such as the nipples, breasts, labia, clitoris or anus. Sometimes it is inserted into the vagina or rectum. Usually the victim was doused with cold water to intensify the effect of the shock.
